No run today.  My calves are so tight I can barely walk.  The pain isn't too bad compared to a marathon, but I have no range of motion at all.  Super super stiff.  I'll see what I can muster tomorrow.

First run in 9 days.  Legs felt much better.  I don't feel like I lost too much in the way of fitness.  After the race last Saturday, my calves were completely destroyed.  I took Monday and Tuesday off planning to run again Wednesday.  However, Tuesday night sometime I had the worst charlie horse I can remember in my right calf.  The next morning it hurt to even walk so I took Wednesday off too.  Pain was right where the muscle transitions into the Achilles tendon and it felt weak and very sore.  Thursday came with no improvement, so I basically bagged the rest of the week, figuring the rest wouldn't hurt anyway.  Today I experienced no problems until the last half mile or so of my run when the pain returned with a vengeance.  I stopped and walked the last 100 yards or so.  This is not good.  I'm hoping that it's nothing, but we'll see how it feels tomorrow.

Injury Update:

Yes, I'm upgrading this stupid calf thing from the "minor, running-related aches and pains" category to "full blown injury" status.  It's weird because I feel nothing when walking, even up stairs, and even for a couple of minutes of running, but then all of a sudden it just feels as if something is ripping in my calf/Achilles and I have to stop.  I made it one mile today (not counting a slow warmup), so there is zero improvement over Monday, if it's not actually worse.  Will keep y'all posted.  I'm going to take one more week completely off and then evaluate it again.  On the bright side, for the few minutes I was able to run today I felt fantastic in every other respect.  Hopefully this thing heals quickly so that I don't start to lose significant fitness.

Ran today for the first time in a week (and really probably a week and a half).  Calf/achilles injury seems to be healed.  I did take it easy, and ran the flattest route I could think of, but I felt no pain or weakness whatsoever.  Will take it easy the rest of the week and then start up again in earnest on Monday.  It is good to be back!  I don't think I've missed running as much as I have the last 3 weeks in a long time.

Easy "long" run today.  Not long by my standards, but it's the longest I've gone since my injury flared up and it felt really good.  I have definitely lost a little fitness, but not as much as I feared and I think things should be back to normal within a couple of weeks and I can start training normally.

SNOW!  About 6 inches were on the ground for my run this evening.  It's always neat to go running right after a big snowstorm.  Looks like I'll get plenty of opportunities in the next few days.  Need to get my Cascadias when I go home this weekend so I have something with traction.  I don't think my Adrenalines are going to cut it when it gets really slick.

Easy run in the cold and snow.  Took my first spill on the ice for this winter.  Woohoo.  Ordered some new shoes from SGRC...Brooks Cascadia.  They have a little bit more of an aggressive outsole so hopefully they will keep me a little more safe this winter.  I have a feeling it's going to be a very long, cold, and snowy one.
